La Marmotte

We write this while literally sitting at the bar at La Marmotte drinking a bottle of 2017 Chave L’Hermitage Blanc, drooling and dreaming about the evening we get to share together.  We know families and friends in France who put bottles of Chave wine aside for the most important meals of the year for family gatherings, whether it be a graduation, a holiday, Reveillon, or any other momentous occasion.  To have a meal solely comprised of pairings with the wines from Chave, the menu designed specifically for the wines, by specialists in French cuisine: these are the moments on which dreams are made.  We are honored to share this wonderful evening with you.

The National Telluride

Have you ever wondered why restaurants and bottle shops have so many different wines from a similar place, from the same producer, or the same place from different producers? Have you ever been curious what the difference between a Village wine and a Grand Cru wine is, and especially why they are priced so differently, even when they are made by the same family? Or from the same region? Welcome to the Pyramid of Terroir. Join us as we take a deep dive into terroir, the connection between the Earth, the weather, the winemaker, and the grape. We will explore a range of wines to understand how wine expresses character, how the relationship of the winemaker to the land creates unique expressions, and how small differences in location determine character, such as the difference of a slope or a vein of granite running through the earth.

To help absorb the wine, The National Executive Chef, Chris Thompson, is preparing a beautiful mediterranean inspired meal to be served family style.

Whenever people discuss the wines of Argentina, the tendency is to immediately gravitate towards Mendoza, neglecting the other incredible wine producing regions in a country with so many dynamic producers.  Most people don't realize that some of the greatest pinot noir in the world is made in Patagonia.  Further, if you go north into San Juan, you'll see vineyards so old that the grapes grow on trees. Let's have fun exploring many great wines from different regions of Argentina, with a focus on everything but Malbec… and yeah, there will probably be some Malbec too.  This delicious journey will be accompanied with some classic Argentinian cuisine (beef… it's what's for dinner… err, lunch) by chef Will Nolan, local butcher Sadie Farrington, and an all star cast from our wine team.

Nothing could be closer to our hearts than the beauty of Telluride seen from Aldasoro Ranch and the connections it recalls from our lives to this place. The Aldasoro family originally came from the Basque Country which has as longing for the days when we were traversing the mysterious, winding roads of the Pyrenees by day and dancing in the streets of San Sebastian at night while eating pintxos and drinking wine throughout. As such, please join us for a Basque-inspired fiesta full of snacks, music, dancing, wine, and carrying on. Expect some freshly roasted pigs, live music, and plenty of wine to get you started for the rest of the weekend.
